Ibn Taymiyyah

Don’t depend too much on anyone in this world because even your own shadow leaves you when you are in darkness. – Ibn Taymiyyah

We come into this world alone and go away alone as well. It is during the life journey that we meet new people and develop relationships. We develop special relationships that are dearer to us than the others. Our family and friends are the ones whom we depend on and tend to fall back on when in need.

But it is important to understand, that while these people are very close and dear. Some problems and situations will be too personal and there will also come difficult situations when others depend on us to help them out of it. For all such situations, it is vital that we become independent and self-reliant.

When we start depending on others, we lose out the opportunity to explore and feel confident about ourselves. Dependence also raises expectations which when unmet make us feel disheartened. Also, when people depend too much on others, their absence, even if it is unintentional, makes us feel helpless.

Instead, if we continuously learn and want to grow, then we will lead a fulfilling life without anyone to depend upon. This does not mean that we will forego our relationships, but we won’t depend on them so much that their absence is going to make us feel anxious.

You cannot trust anyone to be by your side always no matter how close they are to you. So, it is imperative that you learn to gain strength from within to face any situation in life and come out of it on your own.
